What a Couple of Swingers Taught Me This Weekend

What a Couple of Swingers Taught Me This Weekend

Okay, okay … it’s not what you think! I didn’t go to some swanky, swingers bar and learn some new ‘tricks’! YES, yes, I learned some new things but not what you might be thinking, so, Your Head, out of the gutter please!!

What a Couple of Swinges Taught Me: Personal Development

What a Couple of Swinges Taught Me: Personal Development

This past weekend my son (6 yrs old) had a friend playing here. For a little while they were on the swingset, swinging (the kids were the actual swingers!!). The friend was bragging, according to my son, about how HIGH he was swinging. My son gets really aggravated with anyone who brags about anything. Then later the same friend told my son he wouldn’t play with him anymore because my son beat him (over and over and over) in a few Wii games.  My son was really upset that this boy went home angry and also upset about all the bragging. It was time for a parent-child lesson.

We talked about celebrating the victories of others, even when they won’t celebrate Your own victories. We talked about how sometimes people brag because they don’t get acknowledgement on a regular basis.  He understood the power of encouraging & celebrating before the bragging happens. He also understands that, sometimes, to help others become better, it’s important to take a step back and not always do things to win but to help others be more successful.

This talk taught ME how important it is to consistently celebrate what others have done and not be envious of their accomplishments. It taught me that we all have our own journeys and experiences that others don’t know the full story of and to be upset, angry, envious, annoyed or any of the other negative feelings won’t ever truly bring internal happiness within ourselves.  I see too often the success of others in their businesses and wish to have the same. Then I realize that I have my own journey and that they had theirs. I have to put in my time to get to where I want. Sometimes I’ll have set backs and sometimes I’ll sail High through the air. Both are an essential part of my journey to happiness in time and financial freedom.
