So in the last post, part 2 of the series, I let you know I would share with you how to turn your ONE BIG Goal into Action steps today! You may have done this in the past, and if so, this will be a great refresher! If you haven’t done this type of exercise previously, this will help put you on the right path to having action steps to reaching your BIG GOAL!
Reaching BIG Goals: The 7 Action Steps
Okay, so, from reading parts 1 and 2, you’ve determined your One Big Goal to focus on professionally and possibly One Big Goal to focus on personally, right? If you haven’t, do that first.
Do you have a BIG GOAL? Nothing is TOO BIG and if it doesn’t scare you a little, then it’s not big enough!! If your goal is to make a million dollars in 10 years, right now you’re making $50,000 and it doesn’t seem daunting to get to a million 10 years from now, then make it daunting! How about 5 years from now? Or 2 years from now?
How will you earn that $1,000,000? Will it be from your love of animal rescue? From your love of dancing? How about teaching or sharing? Do you love food or to travel or to take photography? That was your 2nd assignment – remember? To find your purpose and your passion! THAT will be your catalyst to, in this example, earning $1,000,000 5 years from today.
Now let’s begin!!
Step 1: We’re going to go backwards to start from where you want to be – with the time date. For example, Earn $1,000,000 per year from my love of photography by Dec 1, 2019.
Step 2: Let’s move this up a year & see what the goals might look like – By Dec 1, 2018 I will have a thriving photography business with 10,000 buying customers and clients worldwide, 50 coaching clients, and 3 photography workshops having earned $600,000.
You see how this is even more specific than step 1 and gets you closer to Step 1, you end goal?
Step 3: Now let’s see what you need to do about year from now to make Step 2 happen and let’s see what it will look like, financially, since the end goal is tied to a financial goal.
By Dec 1, 2017 I will have earned $350,000 from 7,500 buying customers worldwide, 20 coaching clients, and one workshop. My photographs are sold online and I teach photography using YouTube giving free content to building my list of customers and also have one product people can buy from my website so they can fine tune their photography skills. I also have a short course sold on Udimi.com.
Step 4: You’re doing great! Now we’re looking at the next 12 months. This is where you begin getting more detailed. This is where you begin writing out monthly goals up until 4 months out from now.
Step 5: Now you’re at monthly goals, for the next 4 months and you want to be able to really visualize what you’re going to accomplish in action steps right up to one month from now.
Step 6: Okay, 4 weeks of action steps right to this week then what you need to do daily.
Step 7: Each day from today and going forward you write out the actual steps you need to take, as your first actions each day, to get to your goals for tomorrow, for next week, for next month, to 4 months from now, to 6 months from now, to 12 months from now, to 2 years from now, to your end goal.
Congratulations! You’ve just come full circle!
It is critical you take time daily, twice daily, even three times daily to review your goals so you can get BIG RESULTS. Tweak your action steps if necessary. Maybe you’ll find you can speed up some of your time line or perhaps you will add some action steps that will help you to reach your goal sooner or make it even bigger! This is what daily and multiple times per day goals review will do for you.
Goal Setting Summary
This may seem like a daunting task, and if you’re anything like me, a person who just wants to “get on with it” and “just jump feet first”, then it’s almost painful to have to put off the action steps to only write down the action steps! BUT, if you’re anything like me, you have failed many times because of this and understand, it’s time to make a change. It’s time do things like the most successful people do it. These actions steps to goals setting and achieving are nothing new. And, focusing on ONE Goal is followed by multi million and billionaire entrepreneurs. Do you think maybe we can learn something from these entrepreneurs?
I CHALLENGE YOU to Challenge YOURSELF. If you don’t have the BIG RESULTS that you want, yet, then do this, the way this and the past 2 posts have suggested. Even read the book I tell you about in the last post The One Thing: The Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller to get the details of doing all this the way Gary Keller shares (and he is the founder of the largest real estate franchise in the country, Keller Williams, so I think believe he knows what he’s talking about!).
